  1. March 1, 2012 CIHR Operating Grant - IMPORTANT NOTICE for VCHRI investigators

    [MAIN]     [REQUIRED DOCUMENTS]     [REQUIRED SIGNATURES]

Grant Development and Internal Review (see Grant Mentorship) of grant proposals for all Provincial and National peer-reviewed Operating Grant competitions are mandatory for "New-new" Investigators, and strongly recommended for Established Investigators.

For the 2012 March CIHR Operating Grant competition, VCHRI researchers are required to drop off the entire grant application package (see below for required documents) by no later than February 24, 2012.

Please refrain from emailing any grant application paperwork to our ORS office located at VCHRI.

TO AVOID SYSTEM ISSUES WHICH MAY CAUSE DELAY IN THE SUBMISSION PROCESS ON THE DEADLINE DAY, YOU ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT EARLY.

Should you submit your documents for Faculty approval after February 24th, 2012, you will not receive a guarantee of administrative review from ORS which includes confirmation of application completeness and requisite signatures.

Required Documents to be submitted to VCHRI for CIHR Operating Grants:

    1. Completed FoM Grant Cover Sheet, including signatures of the Principal Investigator and Department Head. ORS at VCHRI will obtain Associate Dean's signature for you.
    2. CIHR Application Details pages 1 & 2 (download from ResearchNet under "Preview Application Materials").
NOTE 1: In order for UBC to make the final online submission for you, it is critical that you select "Institution Paid" on the Application Details page as UBC. The code on the drop down menu is "CAAA".
NOTE 2: On the Application Details page, please select "VCHRI" from the drop down menu for the "Primary Location" where the research is to be conducted.
    3. CIHR signature pages, including:
      • Routing slip
      • Signature page for co-applicants (if applicable). The nominated principal applicant does not need to sign on the CIHR signature pages. NOTE: CIHR requires all co-applicant signature pages to be scanned and uploaded to ResearchNet. As a result, any/all signatures can be faxed, photocopied, or stamped.
      • Institution signature page - ORS will approve on ResearchNet, so this page will not be signed and returned to you. But you still need to upload the blank signature page onto ResearchNet.
    4. Summary of research proposal page
    5. "Application for Funding - Budget" pages from CIHR and all budget justification pages.
    6. In the case of cooperative projects, letters of support or commitment from collaborating companies or institutions
    7. However, if your application involves an industry collaborator, a complete copy of the application is required.

Your electronic copy should be submitted via ResearchNet no later than Wednesday, February 29th, 2012. (This allows you to continue working on the scientific portion of your grant after you have submitted your paper copy for Faculty/ORS approval until you submit electronically through ResearchNet on or before February 29th).

ORS will electronically approve your application via ResearchNet for submission to CIHR.

If you cannot meet the February 29th deadline for ResearchNet e-submission, ORS will accept your e-submission on ResearchNet up until 10:00a.m., Thursday, March 1st, 2012 provided that:

    • Required paper documents were already submitted to ORS at the VCHRI campus by Feb 24, 2012
    • Application is complete, including all signatures from co-applicants signatures (if any)

If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact Brit Schottelius at 604-875-5272 , or Sameera Wazir at located at the VCHRI campus; or Lily Liew at at the Point Grey Head Office.

Please visit the ORS website for the CIHR Operating Grant eSubmission Procedure at www.ors.ubc.ca/contents/cihr-operating-grant-esubmission-procedures.
