Welcome. The information contained within these pages speaks to research and other initiatives being undertaken through the UBC Hospital MS Clinic. The research is supported by Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute and UBC Faculty of Medicine.
Our hope is to provide you with an outline of the research activities of the UBC Hospital MS Clinic related to CCSVI as well as general Question and Answers and helpful links related to this topic, and to CCSVI research at UBC Hospital.
Interventional venous treatment for CCSVI is not available in Canada and is still considered experimental. Staff, clinicians, and researchers at UBC Hospital MS Clinic do not recommend Canadians travel outside the country to seek treatment at this point as safety implications, effectiveness, and sustainability of the procedure are not fully understood

December 8, 2011 - UBC Hospital MS Clinic launches provincial CCSVI Registry
UBC Hospital MS Clinic has launched a new Registry for British Columbians who have had a CCSVI procedure for their MS.
The goal of the Registry is to better understand the impact - both positive and negative - of interventional venous treatment, and help develop best practices and care-related protocols for patients who have sought treatment.
While wide-scale, peer reviewed research on the hypothesis and treatment of CCSVI is underway around the world, including a study led by the UBC Hospital MS Clinic, it is still considered only a theory. Treatment is not available in Canada, but MS patients have been seeking the procedure elsewhere and returning to BC without pre-planned follow-up or clear instructions for care.
Patients - who enroll voluntarily for the Registry - will be followed for three years through four telephone interviews regarding their health, activities, MS, and recent CCSVI procedure(s). Aggregated, anonymous data from patients will be analyzed and recommendations for post-treatment care will be made.
