VCH Research Institute announces 2011 Team Grant winners

The Team Grants competition is an annual research grant competition that has been running since 2006. The purpose of these grants is to support VCH staff and clinicians to conduct applied health research projects to improve practice at VCH. VCH health care providers partner with experienced researchers who will mentor them through the entire research process, from proposal to project completion. All applications are peer-reviewed by a committee of researchers, who help ensure that funds go toward supporting projects with both an important question and a rigorous research design that will enable the team to answer that question. The 2011 Team Grants are funded by VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation and VCH Research Institute. Other partners have included North Shore Health Research Foundation and Richmond Hospital Foundation.

VCH Research Institute's internal grants & awards program is an important tool for fostering and developing research activity at VCH. Projects such as these Team Grants help further better health outcomes, develop best practices, and can be shared throughout VCH and across other health authorities. Past Team Grant projects have shown that enabling staff to bring research and researchers into their practice provides great benefits beyond answering their research question. It enables knowledge exchange and the building of relationships with researchers; in some cases this has already lead to new collaborative research projects.
