VCH physician and researcher named to Order of Canada

Dr. Larry Goldenberg was named as a Member of the Order of Canada, December 30, 2009. Dr Goldenberg is Clinical Research Director (and past executive director) of the Vancouver Prostate Centre, at VGH and VCH Research Institute, and Head, Department of Urologic Sciences, UBC Faculty of Medicine. This past fall, Dr. Goldenberg also recently launched the Men's Health Initiative for BC, a large-scale initiative aimed at improving men's health and quality of life through leadership, awareness and education campaigns, research, and disseminating best practices in clinical care.
Dr. Goldenberg was bestowed the honour for his contributions to prostate cancer research and treatment, as well as for promoting public awareness of the disease. He has contributed significantly to championing research by raising funds to create the infrastructure for the Prostate Centre, which has become a leading National Centre for Excellence in prostate research, education and healthcare delivery. In addition to his leadership at the Centre and VCH Research Institute, Dr. Goldenberg has long been a champion of technology at VGH and was the driving force behind the acquisition of "Jack," our state-of-the-art da Vinci Robot, used in many types of minimally invasive surgery including kidney transplant.
