Health Outcomes Research Gets $3 Million Boost .....

Ellen Balka, an Outcomes and Evaluation research scientist with the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology and Evaluation and professor in the School of Communications at SFU has been awarded a $3 million grant by the Social Sciences and Research Council of Canada. Ellen will lead an international research team examining the Role of Technology in the Production, Consumption, and use of Health Information: Implications for Policy and Practice. The goal of the study is to achieve a fuller understanding of the complex ways health information is produced, consumed and used by lay people, and produced and used by health sector professionals, in order to inform the design of policies and systems. For instance when lay people retrieve information from the Internet does it change their consumption of health services? Can they make sense of the information?
