Brain Research Centre
Grand Opening
BC Health Minister Colin Hansen and Stephen Owen, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada, officially opened the Brain Research Centre on January 22, 2004. The event, which recognized donors and key business and government stakeholders, celebrated the 50,000 square feet of research space and the work being done by the over 150 investigators. Diseases of the brain strike at any age and take an extraordinary toll - on individuals, families and the health care system. Brain diseases have a devastating social and economic impact, affecting over four million Canadians at a cost of over $30 billion annually (Ernst & Young). The Brain Research Centre is committed to making a difference, providing a new framework for undertaking investigations of brain function, in sickness and health, by encouraging and facilitating interdisciplinary research and building bridges between basic, clinical and industrial investigators.
