UBCx Professional Education Certificate in Biospecimen Research Methods

Enrolment is now open - class begins Sept 22nd , 2020

Transform the quality of your research and earn a UBCx Professional Education Certificate by learning the international best practices for collecting, storing, and using human biospecimens in the laboratory.

Biospecimen Research Methods is an online course offered by UBC in partnership with www.edx.org. This 6-week, self-paced course has been designed to be flexible with your schedule. Biospecimen Research Methods is delivered over 6 weeks and can be completed in approximately 2-4 hours a week from anywhere, at any-time. Real-time discussion board topics around biospecimen handling, including issues in the context of COVID research, enhances the fundamental course content.

Professionals with extensive experience in biobanking from the University of British Columbia and BC Cancer will teach you the international best practices for biobanking and research involving human biospecimens, based on National Cancer Institute (NCI) and International Society of Biological Environmental Repositories (ISBER) standards.

The course was designed for those involved in research who plan to work with human biospecimens including:

  • graduate and undergraduate students
  • postdoctoral fellows
  • technicians and laboratory staff
  • administrative and ethics board staff
