Inaugural Lectureship in Honour of Dr. Nelly Auersperg on the Origins and Biology of Ovarian Cancer

Mar 14 2025, 12:00pm – 1:00pm
Online or in-person at BC Cancer Research Centre, Lecture Theatre, 675 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C.

Join the UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Gynecologic Cancer Initiative for the inaugural lectureship in honour of Dr. Nelly Auersperg. This lectureship will serve as a platform to highlight innovative research and advancements in ovarian cancer, fostering collaboration and dialogue among leading experts in the field. Reflecting Dr. Nelly Auersperg’s values of intellectual rigor and curiosity, it will encourage exploration of diverse topics in ovarian cancer research, with a focus on unravelling its origins and biology.

This event will feature presentation of Dr. Jurgen Piek focusing on the history, current and future perspectives on high grade serous carcinoma. Dr. Piek was the first to describe Serous Tubal Intraepithelial Carcinoma lesions, shifting the understanding of ovarian cancer pathogenesis and reshaping prevention strategies. His work has been pivotal in highlighting the fallopian tube as the primary site of origin for many high-grade serous ovarian cancers.
