Bridging Research and Industry: Career Strategies for Clinical Researchers

Apr 11 2025, 3:00pm – 5:00pm
Virtual or in-person at Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre, Room 9299, 2775 Laurel Street, Vancouver
Intended Audience
Master’s and PhD students in clinical research affiliated with VCHRI

Exploring career paths beyond academia and navigating the job market can feel uncertain without clear direction. This session will equip the participants with steps to identify career opportunities in industries that align with their research and skill set, including biotech, pharma, clinical informatics, health tech and consulting. It will also offer guidance on assessing key competencies across sectors, evaluating strengths and identifying skill gaps that may need further development. Additionally, the workshop will introduce the networking opportunities, such as informational interviews, peer learning and professional associations. By the end of the session, participants will gain the actionable steps to explore and prepare for careers outside academia while staying connected to the research community. Pizza and light refreshments will be provided.

Learning objectives

In this workshop you will learn:

  • to identify industry career opportunities using a step-by-step process when researching the labour market
  • to evaluate the competencies required for different sectors and assess your own strengths in relation to these competencies
  • to apply effective networking strategies
