VCHRI Trainee Social — Coffee and Networking Session

Trainees from the VCH and UBC research community

Join us for another exciting opportunity for Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute trainees to network, exchange ideas and gain valuable insights from experienced guests. This in-person event will bring together Vancouver Coastal Health and University of British Columbia trainees from various levels, creating opportunities to connect with peers, early-career researchers and established professionals from industry and government.

Learning objectives

In this event you will get to a chance to:

  • Discover practical strategies to navigate academia and launch an impactful career.
  • Engage in meaningful dialogue and ask questions.
About the speakers
Dr. Mehwish Anwer is a postdoctoral fellow supervised by Dr. Cheryl Wellington at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health. She acquired her doctoral degree from the University of Eastern Finland through the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD Fellowship awarded by the European Union. Dr. Anwer is investigating the aftermath of traumatic brain injury using cutting-edge techniques such as tissue clearing, light sheet imaging and spatial transcriptomics. 
Dr. Kyla Hingwing graduated with a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Simon Fraser University in 2013. After working as a scientist for a small start-up biotech company for almost a decade, she moved to her current position as a research and innovation manager at Genome BC. Dr. Hingwing helps develop, fund and manage research projects with the aim of implementing innovations into the health care system.
