The talk will focus on reviewing three major current directions in automating clinical decision support, using specific examples of North American and EU projects, and on understanding how they might affect 21st century clinical practice:
- Intelligent monitoring and alerting over significant time periods, including at the patient's home;
- Customized and personalized continuous application of evidence-based clinical guidelines at the point of care and at the patient's natural environment, especially in the case of chronic patients;
- Powerful clustering, classification, and prediction, using classic and modern (i.e., deep) machine learning methods in general, and methods designed for analyzing large numbers of multivariate time-oriented clinical data in particular.
Professor Shahar holds advanced degrees in Medicine, Computer Science, and Medical Informatics. A former researcher and faculty member at Stanford University, he moved to Ben-Gurion University to found and head its Medical Informatics Research Center, and is the Josef Erteschik Chair of BGU’s Department of Software and Information Systems Engineering.
