I obtained my PhD in Cognitive Psychology at the UBC Department of Psychology. Subsequently I completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Neurobiology and Behaviour at the UBC Division of Neurology / Clinic for Alzheimer Disease and Related Disorders. My interests have evolved from normal memory functioning, with emphasis on prospective memory, to declines in aging and neurodegenerative dementias. I have an active research program, with projects aimed at various behavioural and neuroimaging aspects of early neurodegenerative disease (e.g., Alzheimer Disease, Frontotemporal Dementia) and cerebrovascular disease.

Current Projects

Instrument development:

  • C-TOC (Cognitive Testing on Computer: development and validation of a novel UBC-invented tool for detection of Mild Cognitive Impairment and its etiologies
  • CLIMAT (Clinical Meaningfulness in Alzheimer Disease Treatment): the longitudinal validity of the scale, and the distillation of meaningful treatment effects of cholinesterase inhibitors
  • Cognition:
  • Neuropsychological profiles associated with lacunar stroke, cerebrovascular disease, and preclinical Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD)
  • Neuroimaging:
  • FDG-PET, sMRI and fMRI in prodromal neurodegenerative disease (AD, FTD)
  • Non-pharmacological interventions in neurodegenerative disease:
  • Music therapy, exercise, cognitive stimulation
