Purpose of Study
The purpose of this study is to generate a needs assessment for preventative oral health services in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) settings by exploring the perspectives of parents of NICU infants and NICU health care providers.
Participants will engage in individual, collaborative, semi-structured interviews lasting 30 to 60 minutes. Interviews will be performed online via the UBC-hosted version of Zoom and will be recorded and transcribed verbatim using Zoom’s record, audio and transcribe function. Participants will be asked questions about their views of oral health in the NICU, their opinion on the integration of oral and perinatal services and recommendations for the future. Participants will be asked to complete a short survey following the interview to capture socio-demographic information.
Eligibility
You may be eligible to participate in this study if you are the parent of an infant who is currently in NICU care or who has been in NICU care within the past 18 months. Health care providers working in the NICU who have provided direct, patient-facing care in the past 18 months are also eligible to participate. All participants must be able to speak and understand English and be over the age of 18.
Disclaimer
Study Coordinators and Research Nurses cannot give medical advice over the phone.
