Purpose of Study

The purpose of this study is to adapt and pilot test a mobile app-based motivational interviewing pre-treatment intervention for women on eating disorder clinic waitlists. Broadly, the project aims to improve individuals' motivation to recover from their eating disorder while they are waiting for services. The mobile app will include seven self-help sessions consisting of videos, articles and exercises.

Eligibility

You may be eligible to participate if you:

  • are 18 years of age or older
  • are on a waitlist to receive services for an eating disorder-specific concern in B.C. (not for a separate mental health disorder)
  • are fluent in written and spoken English 
  • identify as a woman
  • meet the criteria for a diagnosis of a threshold or sub-threshold eating disorder (e.g. bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa restricting subtype, anorexia nervosa binge/purge subtype, binge eating disorder, other specified feeding and eating disorders)
  • have never experienced psychosis or received a diagnosis of a schizophrenia-spectrum disorder
  • do not have any cognitive impairments that interfere with app use (e.g. hearing and vision difficulties, traumatic brain injuries)
