Purpose of Study
The purpose of this study is to improve how we use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to assess new treatments for multiple sclerosis (MS) in the future, and to advance personalized care. Advanced MRI research involves gathering different sequences or images not typically collected on a routine clinical MRI. These images will allow the research team to specifically look at myelin in fine detail along with other measures of brain structure and overall brain health.
This study involves six visits over two years. In year one, there are five visits every 12 weeks. At the end of year two there is one final visit. MRI scans and blood draws will be completed at every visit. Cognitive and clinical testing will be completed at baseline, week 24, week 48 and at the final week 96.
Eligibility
This study is open to both individuals with MS and healthy volunteers.
Eligible participants with MS must be less than 20 years from symptoms onset and able to undergo MRI with contrast. Individuals with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) or secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) must be 19 to 50 years of age, with active disease within past two years. Individuals with primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS) must be between 19 to 55 years of age.
Healthy volunteers must be between 19 to 50 years of age, able to undergo MRI and blood draws and have no history of psychiatric or neurological disorders.
