Biography
Dr. Karim Khan is a professor in the Department of Family Practice and the School of Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia. He is an internationally recognized researcher in sport and exercise medicine, which includes promoting physical activity for public health. He has published almost 400 research publications that address important clinical issues such as tendon injuries, osteoporosis and fall risk in older adults.
From 2008 to 2020, he was editor-in-chief of the British Journal of Sports Medicine, the highest-ranked journal in sports medicine, rehabilitation and orthopaedics. From 2017 to 2025, he served the Canadian Institutes of Health Research as the scientific director of the Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis. He is co-author of all six editions of Brukner and Khan’s Clinical Sports Medicine, a best-selling textbook for students and clinicians.
