Purpose of Study

The purpose of this study is to examine the neural basis of subjective craving in people who vape nicotine. The study team will present participants with craving questions while they view films and images in the MRI scanner. If phone and in-person screening are passed, participants will complete up to seven paid sessions. Participants will receive paid compensation and can keep an image of their brain.

Because this study involves multiple MRI sessions, the screening process includes an unpaid 15-min phone call and an unpaid short in-person visit at UBC to confirm vaping status with a saliva test, if passed phone eligibility. If all eligibility requirements are met, the study will involve seven or more paid in-person sessions. The first session will be 1.5 hours (not in MRI scanner), and the rest of the sessions will be 2.5 hours (90 minutes in MRI scanner).

Eligibility

This study is open to individuals who are 20 to 35 years old, vape nicotine and are overall healthy. Eligible participants must be willing to abstain from ANY nicotine use overnight greater than or equal to 12 hours and ANY substance use for 24 hours, excluding nicotine. To confirm full eligibility, the research team will review participants responses to a screening survey and may follow up with a phone call.

If interested, please fill out the online screening form or contact the study team if you have questions.
