Purpose of Study

The purpose of this study is to refine a customizable large language model-based chatbot to provide support to augment an existing acceptable, feasible and efficacious online treatment for sexual difficulties in women. The objectives of the study are to establish the feasibility of an artificial intelligence (AI)-chatbot navigator for eSense-MBT; compare a customizable AI-chatbot navigator to a human navigator; and evaluate the effects of user-customization on the attitudes and acceptability of AI.

Eligibility

Phase one of the study is closed for recruitment. In this phase, three groups of women with low sexual desire and arousal underwent the eSense-MBT treatment with the AI-chatbot. Interviews were conducted with each participant to gather feedback and improve the chatbot.

Phase two of the study is currently recruiting cis and trans women aged 19 and above who are fluent in English. This phase is open to individuals who meet diagnostic criteria for sexual interest/arousal disorder and who are in a romantic relationship of at six months with a partner of any gender. Participants must be able to engage in an 8-12 week online treatment, be able to reliably access the Internet and have basic competency with self-reporting on online platforms. In this phase, participants will be randomly assigned to a customizable AI-chatbot navigator or a human navigator. All participants will complete eSense-MBT and complete two surveys, pre- and post-treatment.
