Purpose of Study

The purpose of this study is to explore how well a virtual cardiac rehabilitation program works for people in rural and remote areas of British Columbia who cannot access traditional in-person care. By offering heart recovery support virtually, the program aims to improve participation, safety and satisfaction. Researchers will track how many people join, stick with and complete the program, and how they feel about it, to help expand access to life-saving heart care across the province.

Participants will complete a virtual cardiac rehabilitation program over six months, starting with a baseline health assessment either in-person or online. They will attend weekly exercise sessions via Zoom, use a wearable activity tracker and complete health and lifestyle questionnaires. At the end of the study, participants will repeat the initial assessments.

Eligibility

This study is open to individuals who are 18 years of age or older and have a clinical indication for cardiac rehabilitation as recommended by their physician. Participants must have received cardiac care through Vancouver General Hospital and reside in a region of British Columbia that does not offer access to a facility-based cardiac rehabilitation program.
