Purpose of Study

The purpose of this study is to determine if a 26-week health coaching program can increase time spent in moderate to vigorous physical activity and improve mobility compared with a 26-week group health education program in older adults with limited mobility.

Participants will be randomized to either health coaching (HC) or group health education (ED) programs. Participants will complete one initial virtual or in-person HC or ED session and eight additional 20-minute sessions over the 26-week program. There will be measurement sessions at baseline, midpoint (13 weeks), final (26 weeks) and follow-up (52 weeks), which will involve assessments of cognitive and physical health.

Eligibility

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:

  • are a community-dwelling adult between 70 to 89 years old
  • have no significant functional impairment or dementia
  • are able to safely engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity as indicated by the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q+), and by the family or study physician if necessary
