Q: What is your role in health research?
A: I’m currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia working under the supervision of Dr. Brian Kwon. I am also working as a research liaison at the Blusson Spinal Cord Center, connecting people with spinal cord injuries to ongoing work at our facility.
Celebrated yearly during the first week of May, Mental Health Week is a time for Canadians to promote mental health awareness. In honor of this annual awareness event, three research coordinators from the Mood Disorders Centre at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, under the guidance of VCHRI investigator Dr. Raymond Lam, discuss the significance of mental health research in improving treatment options and share tips on prioritizing well-being.
Q: What is your role in health research?
A: I am a research dietitian with the BC Brain Wellness Program, working under the guidance of Dr. Silke Cresswell. Our team’s focus is on investigating the impact of dietary interventions, such as the combined Mediterranean-Ketogenic diet, on the gut microbiome and clinical outcomes related to Parkinson’s disease. Additionally, we are assessing the feasibility of implementing these dietary patterns among individuals living with Parkinson’s.
Q: What is your role in health research? A: I am a postdoctoral fellow at the Vancouver Prostate Centre, working under the mentorship of Dr. Amina Zoubeidi. I am conducting research to understand how prostate cancer patients develop resistance to modern anti-androgen therapies.

A: I am a third-year doctoral student in rehabilitation sciences at the University of British Columbia, conducting research at the Aging, Mobility, and Cognitive Health Lab under the guidance of Dr. Teresa Liu-Ambrose.

A: I am currently pursuing a PhD at the School of Public and Population Health at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and serving as a graduate research assistant at the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology and Evaluation (C2E2). Working under the mentorship of Dr. Craig Mitton, my primary responsibilities involve supporting the Health Technology Assessment team. This entails a wide range of tasks, from assisting with rapid reviews to coordinating research projects.
