Xuesen Dong

Dr. Xuesen Dong is a senior scientist at the Vancouver Prostate Centre and a professor in the Department of Urologic Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He received medical school training in China before coming to Canada. He completed a Master of Science in molecular and cellular biology from Laval University and a PhD in physiology from the University of Toronto. He received post-doctoral training from the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute, Mount Sinai Hospital, University of Toronto and the Vancouver Prostate Centre. Dr. Dong was a recipient of several scholarships for his doctoral and postdoctoral training, received a Rising Star Award from Prostate Cancer Canada, and has been continuously funded by Canadian Institutes of Health Research grants since 2005.

Dr. Dong’s laboratory investigates the molecular mechanism by which prostate tumors develop therapy resistance with emphasis on RNA binding proteins that promote treatment-resistant disease progression. His lab applies computer-aided drug design to develop new anti-cancer drugs and RNA sequencing technology to explore cell-free circular RNA as diagnostic markers.
