Purpose of Study

The purpose of this study is to use a driving simulator to investigate how cannabis impacts driving performance in supervised medical cannabis patients who take cannabis for pain, sleep disorders, anxiety or depression.

The study involves driving on a simulator, completing cognitive tasks and providing breathalyzer, urine and blood samples. In some sessions, participants may be asked to consume their regular prescribed daytime dose of cannabis (orally or inhaled).

Eligibility

This study is open to supervised medical cannabis patients between 18 to 79 years of age who are on (or will start) cannabis therapy for pain, sleep disorders (e.g., insomnia), anxiety or depression with an oral or inhaled cannabis product. Participants must have a Class 5 or 7 driver's license and drive at least once per week.

Supervised medical cannabis patients with neurological conditions, cancer, visual impairments or other conditions that impair driving ability (e.g., arthritis with severely limited mobility), or those who use cannabis recreationally more than twice a week are not eligible.

Participants will receive an honorarium and transportation to and from the study site (within the Greater Vancouver area).
