Vancouver resident John Chernesky has been unable to walk unassisted and been using a wheelchair for mobility since a car crash in 1993 left him with a spinal cord injury (SCI). More than 20 years later, while participating in an International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD) clinical study investigating vibration therapy, Chernesky was able to take his first few unassisted steps since the accident.
Two new chair appointments for scientists at the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute will provide opportunities to develop innovative approaches to men’s health issues and for spinal cord injury, helping to bring medical discoveries from bench to bedside.
Congratulations to Dr. Larry Goldenberg, CM, OBC, Vancouver Prostate Centre Director of Development and Supportive Care, who has been appointed to the inaugural Mohammad Mohseni Chair in Men’s Health VGH (Vancouver General Hospital).
A project born out of researcher-clinician collaborations through the Rehabilitation Research Program, a Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI) program located at the G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre, is demonstrating how an online health resource can be highly credible and effective in disseminating research information, so much so that frontline clinicians change how they treat their patients.
