Biography

Dr. Silke Appel-Cresswell is a movement disorder neurologist and Associate Professor for Medicine/Neurology at the University of British Columbia, where she holds the Marg Meikle Professorship for Research in Parkinson’s disease and directs the Pacific Parkinson’s Research Centre and the UBC Movement Disorders Clinic. Her research focusses on the role of the microbiome and nutrition in Parkinson’s disease and related brain disorders, lifestyle interventions as well as non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s. She leads several clinical trials and is passionate about the use of ultrasound in guiding botulinum toxin injections for movement disorders.

Dr. Appel-Cresswell is the founding director of the BC Brain Wellness Program, is a member of the International Movement Disorder Society Taskforce on Wellness and has previously served as the president of the Canadian Movement Disorder Society and the Director of the Canadian Residents Course for Movement Disorders. She has been named an honorary medical alumna at UBC and has received the UBC Killam Prize for Excellence in Teaching.
