Exploring the health experiences of women in midlife

The purpose of this study is to examine the health experiences of women in midlife, with particular focus on menopause. The study will investigate: the impacts of menopausal symptoms on quality of life and daily living, including caregiving responsibilities and workforce participation and productivity; the health-seeking experiences and behaviours of midlife women to treat menopause symptoms; and the barriers to obtaining care to address symptoms, as well as satisfaction of care received.

Cognitive-Behavioural and Mindfulness-Based Online Programs for Female Sexual Dysfunction

The purpose of this study is to evaluate two online psychological programs that address sexual concerns in women. Both programs have been found to be effective for sexual concerns when administered in face-to-face programs. However, many women lack access to these face-to-face interventions, which leaves them unable to access the care they need. These treatments have been adapted to online delivery in a program called eSense, and the eventual goal is to make these helpful treatments more accessible.

Exploring the Effects of Yoga, Meditation, and tDCS Brain Stimulation

tDCS (transcranial Direct Current Stimulation) is a brain stimulation technique that involves passing a very low current through the scalp to change the excitability of underlying brain regions. Moreover, yoga and meditation have recently gained popularity for their proposed health benefits. This study seeks to investigate whether there is a combined effect of yoga, meditation, and tDCS on cognition.

The IMPPACT study: Intimacy and Mindfulness Post-Prostate Cancer Treatment

Prostate cancer treatments are known to impact sexual lives of men and their partners. Although treatments do exist to help rehabilitate sexual functioning, approximately 50% of people stop using these treatments after 6 months. Researchers at UBC and the Prostate Cancer Centre are developing a new treatment using mindfulness-based therapy to help couples cope with the changes that prostate cancer bring to their lives.

The effect of secondary attentional tasks on smooth pursuit eye movements and reaction time in mild traumatic brain injury

This study investigates the use of eye tracking technology as a diagnostic tool for mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and concussion. We are looking at the effect of additional working memory (short-term memory) load on the smoothness of eye movements in both concussed and healthy populations.

Study of the Efficacy of Lurasidone in Cognitive Functioning in Bipolar Patients (ELICE_BD)

This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre, parallel-group study to assess the cognitive effects of lurasidone in bipolar I and II patients (manic depression) who are in remission from an episode. Participants who show cognitive impairment at the screening visit will be enrolled into the study and randomized at the baseline visit to receive either lurasidone or placebo adjunctive therapy in a 1:1 ratio for 6 weeks.
